Alexander Stoudinger Lee
[b. 1997]
Originally from the East Coast, he has developed his artistic practice across San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston. Painting in oil on canvas since 2012, his work is driven by a deep reflection on meaning derived from the Bay Area's environment and culture. He captures the essence of influential subjects—from loved ones and favorite musicians to abstract concepts and overlooked moments. His recent focus on everyday subject matter like airports, neighborhoods, and pairs emphasizes unconventional verticality and perspective. This search for unique angles and color nuances in the deepest shadows and brightest highlights has been central to his evolution toward creating more robust and compelling compositions.
Currently in school, he is experimenting with new mediums and how technology might be incorporated into traditional techniques.
